Echo Drive and Canal Boathouses

Print Email

Sidewalks on Echo Drive east of Bank Street and Pig Island nestled between boathouses on the canal? Yes, in a certain era.

In this Urbsite blog post, Robert Smythe highlights the story of this stretch of the canal with archival photos of the boathouses plus the many tall pines along the bank of the canal and wooden sidewalks on Echo Drive: From the Federal District Commission Albums - Building Echo Drive 1931.

More background about the boathouses of the Rideau Canal can be found here in this post by Allan McCullough.
