At the OSCA board meeting held June 19th 2018, Councillor David Chernushenko announced that an agreement had been reached between the City of Ottawa and the National Capital Commission for implementation of a pedestrian crossover (PXO) across Colonel By Drive at Seneca Street.
This safe crossing is now back in the plans for the City's Integrated Road Sewer and Water Project taking place in the northwest quadrant of Old Ottawa South and work will begin this fall. There will be a raised crossing with flashing lights which will respond to a button push activated by those wishing to cross.
The OSCA Traffic & Safety Committee has persistently advocated for a safe crossing of Colonel By Drive for cyclists and pedestrians and was delighted with this news. This new crossing will not only allow for safe crossing of this busy street at Seneca but will also slow traffic along other parts of Colonel By Drive. This collaborative effort will allow greater access to the canal and the canal pathway for residents of Old Ottawa South and those who pass through our neighbourhood.
Thanks to Councillor Chernushenko and his staff, along with Catherine McKenna and her staff, and the NCC for addressing our request. We look forward to the beginning of the work this fall.
