From my old book, "Ottawa Past And Present" published in 1927, I get the following info on origins of street names-

Aylmer--Baron Aylmer, Governor in Chief of Canada 1830-1835

Bank--formerly Esther, after Esther By, possibly due to Bank of Montreal

Barton-- after an early resident

Belmont-- after a character in Moores play, "The Foundlings"

Bronson-- Erskin Henry Bronson, lumber baron

Brighton-- a famous english watering place

Cameron-- after the builder of Stadacona Hall

Euclid-- after the famous geometer

Fairburn--  after a pioneer family in Ottawa south

Fentiman-- after the contractor who built the first house there

Galt--after John Galt, Ottawa Engineer

Glen-- after a Toronto realtor

Grosvenor-- after Grosvenor Square in London

Harvard-- Harvard University

Hopewell-- after Charles Hopewell mayor 1909-1912

Osborne-- Capt. Sherrard Osborne 1822-1875 British Naval officer and author

Ossington-- Lord Ossington 1800-1873 speaker British house of Commons

Riverdale-- along the river

Rosedale-- after street in Toronto

Roslyn-- after character in "As You Like It"

Seneca-- after the indian tribe

Sunnyside-- after the Toronto beach

Wendover-- after Viscount Wendover

Willard-- after Edward Willard English, actor at the time

Windsor-- after Windsor Castle

Belmont Ave renumbered - Riverdale to Bank

 

1913 Ottawa City Directory lists 2 or 3 properties east / 1 west of Riverdale (north side) and 1 east / 1 west (south side) of Riverdale with "new" numbering, but all the rest with the original numbering. In 1914 directory new numbering is in place for entire street
