Outstanding Lifetime Volunteers Honoured
Two longtime Old Ottawa South volunteers were recognized at the OSCA Annual General Meeting in May, becoming the first recipients of the Outstanding Lifetime Volunteer Awards, part of the Association's newly established Volunteer Recognition Program.
David Bouse and Gary Lum were both awarded an Outstanding Lifetime Volunteer award for their many years of important contributions to our community.David Bouse
David has worked tirelessly for many years for the benefit of our community. He has:
- served on the OSCA Board of Directors
- championed many local causes, such as schools, green space, and public art
- volunteered at Hopewell Avenue Public School to help bring in French immersion
- and produce their 75th anniversary yearbook in 1985
- contributed to the current OSCA website and produced the Essential Guide to Old Ottawa South in 1999
- produced the landmark essay "Our Heritage" on the history of Old Ottawa South
- spearheaded the creation of the Robert McDougall Memorial Children's Garden, and continues to be its principal custodian, often with the helping hands of the many children he has encouraged to volunteer
- contributed to the OSCAR, our community newspaper
Gary Lum
Gary's outstanding contributions span over 20 years of volunteering. He has:
- worked extensively on maintaining and improving our local parks, incuding:
- many years as coordinator of Windsor Ice Rink
- founding and chairing the Old Ottawa South Parks Renewal Committee
- developing a park revitalization plan for Windsor Park
- organizing tree planting and invasive species removal
- key organizing for re-naturalizing the City of Ottawa Windsor Park depot
- served on the OSCA Board of Directors in the 1990s
- contributed to the OSCAR, our community newspaper
Both of the 2009 award recipients will receive a Certificate of Merit and a gift certificate valid at participating merchants of the Old Ottawa South Business Association.
