OSCA’s Environment Committee – ECOS – was dormant during most of the past year; however, it’s active again. In addition to its May 22, 2011 birding/photography ramble with Bruce Dilabio (see the May 2011 OSCAR article by Judy Lascelles), ECOS is working with gardening enthusiasts, and local residents, to explore whether Old Ottawa South could have a community garden in one of the larger parks (see the March 2011 OSCAR article by Lori Waller).
In the upcoming year, ECOS hopes to
- recruit new members and involve more younger people
- stage several more rambles, such as of butterflies and trees
- continue to explore whether it’s possible to have a community garden
- begin to record the natural history of our area
- outline a sustainability action plan for our community
