An Old Ottawa South business listing is in the works and wants your local business to be included.
The business community of Old Ottawa South (OOS) is most visibly concentrated on Bank Street. A recent count there showed more than seventy storefront businesses plus a theatre, two banks and an ATM “between the bridges”. But there is more to the OOS business community. Not only are there businesses just off Bank Street and in a cluster at the corner of Sunnyside and Seneca, there are probably as many or more business throughout the neighbourhood which are home-based. These too are part of our business community.
A new initiative to embrace the business community as part of the OOS community, to foster its vitality and give it greater profile, has seen several developments. Councillor Chernushenko convened a meeting at Southminster Church in late September to discuss the state of Bank Street in OOS. A personal voluntary initiative toward the creation of a Business Improvement Area (BIA) has recently been begun by Danielle Kuczer ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Meanwhile, an informal project in the community is creating a list of OOS businesses with a view to making such a list available online and elsewhere. Initiated by Isla Jordan and Gail Stewart, with OSCA Web Editor Gwen Gall's encouragement, the list should soon appear on our community website: www.oldottawasouth.ca.
