Mad Men Party: What a Night!

Mad Men partygoersThe OSCA Mad Men party on Saturday, November 19, 2011 was a rip roaring success. 160 people showed up sporting some absolutely pull-out-the-stops fabulous styles from the 1960s in keeping with the show. There were many Don and Betty look-alikes! Truly, there were! (Check out this album of photos by Christopher Solar. More on our photo gallery here, too; add your own or email them to the OSCA Web Editor.)

The décor was 1960s office lounge. The Main Hall was packed with people with up-dos and skinny ties swaying to the tunes from the two bands. Deborah Clarke and the Martini Avengers opened up for the Stan Clark Orchestra, back from last year’s 21 Club. Servers from Copper Pot Catering circulated the room with trays of well presented theme-food-with-flair like: shrimp in cocktail sauce, oysters on the half-shell, sausage blankets, tandoori chicken mini tacos, deviled eggs, pulled pork egg rolls—all of it fresh and yummy.

Guests lined up at the bar for the signature drink, the pretty pink Harpoon, made with cranberries and lime. Four full tables of gambling filled the lounge. People cajoled. Guests mingled and met neighbours and were introduced to others. People flipped through the 1960s Life magazines on the coffee tables and remembered their moms in some of the same outfits. We all reminisced. All in all, it was too much fun. Midnight struck way too soon for this lively crowd! It was a happening occasion showcasing the vibrant community life in Old Ottawa South.

Thanks for coming out folks!

The organizing committee: Kendall McQueen, Lisa Droulliard, Vanessa Riddell, Anke Kausch, Rosalind Bialowas, Bess Fraser, and Kate Charland would like to thank everyone who volunteered to make the party a success, especially their partners! And a special thanks to Ian Marsland who was the master rigger on the 20 ft. ladder!

Thanks to Chris Solar for photographing the event. Thanks to David Law for joining us as M.C. And a big thanks to the Stan Clark Orchestra who really set the ‘tone’ for the evening!
