Old Ottawa South Garden Club members represent a mix of beginners and more experienced gardeners, with gardens that range from pot-filled apartment balconies to professionally landscaped lots. We share the passion, curiosity, frustration, and pleasure of this pastime.

September 8: Celebrate Our New Location with a presentation on healthy gardening, a display of gardening books from Sunnyside Library, a photo display of members’ gardens, and silent auction.
October 13: Bringing the Garden Indoors- Over wintering Plants. Jamie Roy-Belair of Tivoli florist will discuss how tender plants, common annuals, and more exotic tropicals can be brought indoors for the winter.
November 10: Growing Dahlias- From Tubers to Blooms Without a Greenhouse. Olly Churchryk, owner of Charing House Gardens, will be talking about the techniques of growing dahlias in Ottawa without a greenhouse.
January 12: Garden Renovation- Creating the Garden You Love From the Garden You Have. Alilsa Francis, garden consultant, will examine how some tough and realistic criteria can be applied when re-creating an established garden.
February 9: The Vertical Garden-Vines, Trailers, and Creepers. Mary Reid of Green Thumb Garden Centre will be talking about how to choose and use varieties of climbing, trailing, and creeping plants.
March 9: Xeriscaping: Water-Wise Gardening. In this talk given by Master Gardener Nancy Seppala, gardeners will learn how to have beautiful gardens and yet conserve water.
April 13: Made in the Shade: Ferns and Hostas and Beyond. Suzanne Patry of Whitehouse Perennials will describe innovative approaches to gardening in shady conditions
May 8: Spring Perennial Exchange: Good Plants, Good Deals. Bring potted and labelled perennial plants to exchange. Set up starts at 9:30 am. exchange at 10 am. sale of remaining plants follows. At Brewer Park near the shelter at the children’s playground.
June 8: Visit to the National Art Gallery: Signs and Symbols in Medieval to Baroque Art. A curator from the gallery will guide members on a thematic tour that deals with the significance of elements such as book, flowers and certain colours in paintings.
