After almost a year of being closed for renovations, the Sunnyside branch of the Ottawa Public Library has finally reopened, to the anticipation of dozens of loyal patrons who stood by the doors waiting at 10 am on Monday, August 16th. The branch has been closed since last November and the building has been renovated and expanded to provide new multipurpose rooms, as well as retrofitting and improvements of the interior.
There will be an official reopening ceremony on Thursday, August 26th at 3 pm, and a special celebration for the community on Saturday, August 28th, starting at 10 am.
All are welcome to attend both events!
Be sure to check out the new artwork by local artists Bhat Boy (see above) and Crystal Beshara (in the new Children's Room) which were commissioned by OSCA (but really donated at that price!)
The Saturday, August 28th celebration will include:
- Aesop's Fables Puppet Show at 10:15 am in the new Children's Room.
- The Celtic Rathskallions musical performance at 11:30 am.
- Local Children's author Wendy More will have copies of her latest book, “A Tune for Maddie”, on hand for purchase and signing.
- "Little John the Clown" will also be there to entertain and make balloon animals.
- And maybe a few other surprises!
So drop by and rediscover your local library. (Now’s the time to return all those books we’ve had for an extended borrowing period...and try out the new self-serve checkout machines!)
Location: 1049 Bank Street.
