Lansdowne traffic study - we need to inform our neighbourhood! 1 Year, 7 Months ago
We need to have a neighbourhood meeting about the traffic study. To make the meeting successful and useful, we should be inviting the neighbourhoods south of us who will be affected by our traffic mess. Is anybody able to take this on? I have spoken to numerous people in my area who think that the traffic issue is only a problem for the Glebe. I can provide an excellent summary of the traffic report if someone plans to organize the meeting.

Greg and I have been discussing the need for a public meeting also. Is there some way we could have a meeting at St, Margaret Mary's, like OSWatch did for the urgent Lansdowne meeting?

The most disturbing thing (to me) about the Lansdowne traffic report is that there is absolutely no reference to the "Sunnyside" (ATM) study, and the ATM study has absolutely no reference to the Lansdowne report's proposal to use Sunnyside as a bus corridor and increase #7 frequency (to say nothing of the increased car traffic)!

When I asked Clive Doucet about that at the board meeting last Tuesday, I asked "Is this a case of one hand not knowing what the other hand is doing or is the Sunnyside traffic study just a smokescreen?"

Clive shook his head and said, "Smoke and mirrors. It's all smoke and mirrors, I'm afraid."

We need to get this out into the open! People don't know what's going on!

We should all email all our councillors asking the question about the one study not referencing the other at all. If they plan to destroy Old Ottawa South traffic anyway, then what's up with the ATM study? Either way, it's a case for the WASTE HOT LINE....

If we can publicize this hypocrisy, especially to the media, this might be the "smoking gun" about transportation that could change councillors' minds. I bet they don't even know the ATM study is going on!

It only took 4 days to organize the OSWatch meeting. This is so much more important. We could have a meeting on Wednesday if someone can find a room.
In the meantime, here's the latest bulletin from our councillor. It should be covering the front page of our web site, together with the action items. It's improtant, however, to get residents of specific wards to write. Councillors are responsible to their residents, although they should also be thinking about the city as a whole.

Dear Ottawa residents,
It's always good advice to read the fineprint before signing a contract. Well, we have read the fineprint in the Lansdowne Partnership Plan (LPP) legal agreement and it contains several disturbing clauses that should be of concern to any reasonable and prudent person.
Here is a list of what's in the legal agreement that Council will be voting on on Monday, June 28:
1) The LPP Legal Agreement includes a clause to declare 12 acres of Lansdowne Park as SURPLUS which means it is SALEABLE.
2) In addition, the retail tenant (the Ottawa Sports and Entertainment Group: Greenberg, Shenkman, Ruddy and Hunt) will have the right of first opportunity to buy the land, which means that competitive bidding for the surplus land will not be permitted.
3) Pursuant to the Urban Park Project Management Agreement, OSEG will act as project manager for the construction of the urban park, which includes the front lawn and Sylvia Holden Community Park.
4) Pursuant to the Urban Park Property Management Agreement, OSEG will manage the urban park, Aberdeen Pavilion and Horticultural Building.
5) Although taxpayers are footing the bill for the stadium construction to the tune of $129 million, base rent for the stadium during the first thirty years of the term is $1.00 per year.
6) And if you think any of this is bad, wait until an arm's length Muncipal Services Corporation takes over control of the park. This is a very real possibility.
7) Here is the link to the LPP Project Agreement Framework legal document #18:

Contrary to what many are claiming - this is not a "done deal".
