(More 2010 Fall Fest photos here)
With rain overshadowing our Fall Fest and the forecast suggesting we might have to cancel, I called up the Special Events Committee and we decided that our new community centre was actually big enough to hold a Fall Fest ( with a few tweaks of course). Then when Cathie Buchanan, our Centre Director, suggested we have the Goat Bingo inside, I knew we were going to be just fine. (See Brenda with goat in the photo to the left by Tom Alfoldi.)
OSCA Fall Fest Moved to Firehall
So Fall Fest was moved, fingers were crossed that the message would get out—the OSCA web team sent out a special bulletin to subscribers, for example—and we waited with baited breath. The doors opened and people started flooding in. In the end, over 200 people came to enjoy a community celebration of Fall in Old Ottawa South.
With over 12 pots of soup donated and free hot dogs and drinks from the Old Ottawa South Community Association (OSCA), people were well fed and ready to check out the various activities offered. There were games from Firehall staff, hay rides, pumpkins, raffles, local vendors (thanks to Yummy Cookies, Life of Pie, Alpenblick Farms, Cas Houde and Christopher Heilmann), live music (courtesy of Darcy Middaugh and The Ottawa Folklore Centre), food contests, and of course Goat Bingo.
In the end the goat "picked" Nic Wennekes’ square as the winner of the 50/50 prize and he walked away with over 60 dollars in his pocket...and no, he did not get to keep the goat!
While Nic’s win was certainly the most entertaining, there were other prize winners who were equally happy with their wins. (And yes, you will see the Wennekes name featured prominently in this list. I hope Nic went out and bought a lottery ticket after Fall Fest!)

Thank you so much to all of the people and businesses who donated prizes to this event. It's really wonderful how many donations we had and a true testament to what a great community we live in. Please go out and thank the businesses and let them know that their help was appreciated! (And don't forget to shop our local stores for a night of savings, special treats and sale prices Thursday, November 25 from 5 - 9 pm.)
Thanks go out to the local vendors (listed above with the winners) who helped and who took time out of their busy schedules to make the Fall Fest a true celebration.
Thanks also to all of the many volunteers who helped out at this event. These events would be absolutely impossible without your help and it is again a testament to the community we live in that we had such hard working and committed volunteers. Thank you!
And if it looked like fun and you want to volunteer at our next event, the Winter Carnival, then please call 613-247-4872 for more information, or watch the OSCAR and this website as we get closer to February, 2011.
